A driving licence is a key document that every driver needs to have in India. It is a document giving official permission to people to drive on the roads in the country. Types of Driving Licence in Rajasthan

Just like other states in the country, there are two types of licences that you can obtain in Rajasthan, depending on your competency in driving. The two types of driving licences in Rajasthan are:

1. LEARNER LICENCE
   

   This type of licence is a learner’s permit that is issued by the Rajasthan Motor Department. This permit is given to those who are learning how to drive a vehicle and wish to apply for a permanent licence in the future. To obtain a learner’s licence, you must be properly aware of all traffic rules and regulations in India, and must clear a written test. Along with that, you must be 16 years of age or above to get a learner’s permit.

   After obtaining your learner’s licence, you will then be allowed to drive and practice on Indian roads if you are accompanied by a person who holds a valid and permanent driving licence.

    

2. PERMANENT LICENCE

   After you get your learner’s licence, you are eligible to apply for a permanent licence within 120 days from the date of issue of the learner’s permit. The Rajasthan Motor Department will be the issuing authority for a permanent licence. To obtain a permanent licence, you need to pass a written test, along with a driving test.

   There are various types of permanent licences that you can apply for: motorcycles without gear, motorcycles with gear, commercial vehicles, light motor vehicles, etc. Once you get your permanent licence, you will be legally entitled to drive on the roads in India.

How to Apply for a Learner’s Driving Licence in Rajasthan

As mentioned earlier, to be able to have a permanent driving licence in Rajasthan, one first needs to be in possession of a learner’s permit. Hence, it is important to know how to apply for a learner’s driving licence in Rajasthan.

 Eligibility Criteria

To obtain a learner’s permit in Rajasthan, there are a few eligibility criteria that you need to ensure that you meet, such as:

• The applicant must be in complete knowledge of the traffic rules and regulations.
• For a motorcycle without gear, i.e., for a vehicle with an engine capacity of up to 50 cc, the applicant must be 16 years of age or above to apply for a learner’s licence.
• For a light motor vehicle, the applicant must be 18 years of age or above to apply for a learner’s permit.
• For commercial vehicles, the applicant must be at least 20 years of age and should have completed their education at least till 8th standard.

 Application Process

It is very simple to apply for a learner’s licence in Rajasthan. There are two ways by which you can go about to obtain your learner’s permit: online and offline application.

Online Application:

To apply for a learner’s licence online, you need to follow the steps below:

Step 1: Visit https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
Step 2: Click on Driving Licence Related Services.
Step 3: From the drop down menu, select the state from where the service needs to be taken, i.e., Rajasthan.
Step 4: Click on the icon Apply Learner Licence.
Step 5: Fill up your details in the online application.
Step 6: Upload the scanned copy of the documents mentioned in the section above.
Step 7: Upload your passport sized photograph and a scanned copy of your signature.
Step 8: Pay the application fee via online payment gateways.
Step 9: You will then be redirected to download your payment receipt.
Step 10: After downloading the receipt, you will be redirected to a new page where you can book a slot for your LL test.

Post successful payment and submission of the application, you need to appear for your LL test with a copy of the application form and payment receipt.

Offline Application

To apply for a learner’s licence offline, you need to follow the steps below:

Step 1: Visit your nearest relevant Rajasthan RTO.
Step 2: Fill out the application form for the learner’s permit. You can get the form at the RTO or can take out a copy of the same online.
Step 3: Submit the form along with the documents mentioned in the section above.
Step 4: Pay the application fee.
Step 5: You would then be asked to pick a slot for your LL test.

After you submit your application, you need to appear for your LL test on the given date and time with a copy of your application form and payment receipt.

How to Apply for a Permanent Driving Licence in Rajasthan

Once you have passed your learner’s test, you are then eligible to apply for a permanent driving licence. Just as it is for a learner’s permit, there are two ways by which you can apply for a permanent driving licence: online and offline. Read on to know how to apply for a permanent driving licence in Rajasthan.

Eligibility Criteria

To get a permanent driving licence in Rajasthan, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

• The applicant must have a valid learner’s licence.
• The applicant must apply for a permanent licence after 30 days or within 120 days from date of issuance of the learner’s licence.
• For a motorcycle without gear, i.e., for a vehicle with an engine capacity of up to 50 cc, the applicant must be 16 years of age or above to apply for a permanent licence.
• For a motorcycle with gear and light motor vehicle, the applicant must be 18 years of age or above to apply for a permanent licence.

Post submission of your application, you will receive a confirmation of the date and time of your driving test. You need to then appear for the test on the concerned day with your application form and copy of your payment receipt. On passing the test, the Rajasthan RTO will then issue a permanent driving licence to you.

Offline Application

In order to apply for a permanent driving licence offline in Rajasthan, you need to follow the steps below:

Step 1: Visit your nearest relevant Rajasthan RTO.
Step 2: Fill out the application form for a permanent driving licence. You can get the form at the RTO or alternatively can take out a copy of the same online.
Step 3: Submit the form along with the required documents.
Step 4: Pay the application fee.
Step 5: You would then be asked to schedule a DL test.

How to Check Driving Licence Status Online in Rajasthan

After you clear your driving test, it takes up to 15 days or less in Rajasthan for your driving licence to arrive at your residence. In the meantime, you can check the status of your driving licence application online. To do so, follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
Step 2: From the menu bar at the top of the page, select Online Services.
Step 3: From the drop down menu, select Driving Licence Related Services.
Step 4: Select the state from where the service is to be taken, i.e., Rajasthan.
Step 5: Select the icon Application Status.
Step 6: Enter your application number, date of birth and a captcha code.
Step 7: Click on Submit.

You will then be redirected to a new page where the current status of your application will be made visible to you.

Online Driving Licence Renewal in Rajasthan

Apart from obtaining a new licence, the Motor Department at Rajasthan also allows you to apply for renewal of your driving licence online. If you want to renew your driving licence online, this is what you need to do:

Step 6: From the drop down menu, select Services on DL (Renewal/Duplicate/AEDL/Others)
Step 7: Fill up the required details.
Step 8: Submit the following documents:
a) Form 9 (Form Of Application For The Renewal Of Driving Licence)
b) Form 1 and 1A (in case the applicant is older than 40 years of age)
c) Passport sized photographs
d) Copy of the expired licence
e) Address proof
f) Age proof
Step 9: Pay the renewal fee.
Step 10: After your payment is complete, you will be redirected to a new page where you can download the payment receipt.

Online Application Process for Duplicate Driving Licence in Rajasthan

In case you end up misplacing your driving licence, gets damaged or is stolen, you can easily apply for a duplicate licence in Rajasthan. The online application process for getting a duplicate driving licence in Rajasthan is as follows:

Step 1: Visit https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
Step 2: Click on Driving Licence Related Services.
Step 3: From the drop down menu, select the state from where the service needs to be taken, i.e., Rajasthan.
Step 4: Click on the icon DL Services.
Step 5: Fill out your details and select the service you require, i.e., issue of duplicate DL.
Step 6: Upload the following documents:
a) Copy of the FIR
b) Address proof
c) Application form LLD
d) Photocopies of the original driving licence
e) Passport sized photographs
Step 8: Pay the fee for your duplicate licence.

After verification of your documents and application, a duplicate driving licence will be issued to you by the concerned RTO.
