Fancy Number: How to Book Vehicle Number of Your Choice in Different States
Every motor vehicle in our country has a characteristic registration number or a vehicle number. This number contains a series of alphabets and numerals and helps in giving a vehicle a distinct identity. The vehicles are registered at the respective Regional Transport Office through this number. According to The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, it is compulsory for a vehicle owner to have their vehicles registered at RTO and get a number plate fixed on the back and the front side of the vehicle. How to Apply for Fancy or VIP Vehicle Registration Numbers Online?
There are two stages of application if you want to apply for Fancy or VIP Vehicle Registration Numbers online:
- Fill Registration Form
- e-Auction Stage
Here’s a step by step guide for filling the registration form:
Step 1: Open the website, https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy/
Step 2: Click on New Public User if you are a new applicant
Step 3: Fill in all the details in the signup form and log in
Step 4: Once logged in, click on Number Selection Menu
Step 5: Opt for Light Motor Vehicle and two-wheeler in the vehicle category
Step 6: Select the desired number and press continue
Step 7: Click on Submit to Register tab
Step 8: Once done, a form will be displayed on the screen
Step 9: Submit the form, fill captcha code and select the check box
Step 10: Click on the “Pay” tab
Step 11: You will be redirected to a new page
Step 12: Select an appropriate mode of payment
Step 13: Pay the fee and complete the registration
Step 14: Download the receipt for future reference

Step 1: Open the eParivahan website, click here
Step 2: Log in to the portal using the valid ID and password to participate in the e-auction
Step 3: Once logged in, select Bidding Process Menu
Step 4: Choose the unique acknowledgement number from the drop-down menu
Step 5: Choose a fancy number for raising the bid
Step 6: Select the Up button to increase the bid amount
Step 7: Once the e-auction ends, the results would be displayed
Step 8: Check the results by clicking on Show Auction Results tab
Step 9: Click on Balance Amount Payment in case there’s any balance left to pay
Step 10: Select an appropriate mode of payment
Step 11: Print the allotment letter and contact the respective RTO

How to Check Fancy Vehicle Registration Number Auction Results Online?
The system generated results would be available online after the e-auction ends on the Parivahan website. The bidder will also be informed via an SMS and an email about the result.
Open the website link, https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy/ and click on “Show Auction Result” tab on the home page. Next, enter your state name, RTO Name, Result Date and click on the View tab to check the results online.
How to Search for the Number of Your Choice for Your Car/Bike Online?
You can search the desired number for your car and bike online through the Parivahan website. Open the website link, https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy/ and click on “Search by Number” tab on the home page. A new page will appear, submit the required details including state name, RTO name, verification code and enter the numeric part of the number. Once done, click on the Check Availability button.
How to Check the Open Series of Fancy Numbers Available to Book Online?
You can check the open series status online through the Parivahan website. Open the website link, https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy/ and click on “Show Open Series Status” tab on the home page. A new page will appear, submit the required details including your state and RTO name to check the open series of a fancy number available to book online.
How to Check Transaction Status of Payment Made for Fancy Numbers?
There’s a facility available online on the Parivahan website to check the transaction status of payment made for fancy numbers. Open the website, https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy/ and click on “User Other Services” tab. Select “Bank Transaction Status” from the drop-down menu. You will be redirected to a new page. Next, enter either transaction ID, Payment ID, Bank Reference Number or Registration Number to check the status of your transaction.
Frequently Asked Questions:
You can transfer your fancy number from your old vehicle to another vehicle in case you have purchased a new vehicle. However, the transference is based on the approval from the concerned authority and you also need to submit an additional processing fee for it.
While booking the vehicle fancy number online, no documents have to be uploaded on the portal. However, once you get the allotted vehicle number and approach the respective RTO, then you would be expected to carry relevant documents including residential proof, identity proof, etc.
Only light motor vehicles and two-wheelers can book a fancy or VIP number. Commercial vehicles cannot book it.
