Cases where a Duplicate Driving Licence Can be Issued by RTO

RTO has the authority to issue a duplicate driving licence. You are allowed to apply for a duplicate driving licence only in the following cases:

  • If your driving licence is lost or destroyed
  • If your driving licence is damaged, torn or completely written up
  • If the photograph affixed to the driving licence needs replacement

Documents Required for Duplicate Driving Licence (DL)

Step 2: Select DL services from the given options
Step 3: Submit the information such as DL number, date of birth, local RTO details etc
Step 4: Upload all the documents on the Sarathi website
Step 5: Upload your photograph and signature
Step 6: Pay the application fee online
Step 7: Print the receipt for future reference

Alternatively, you can also take the print out of the LLD form online and visit the RTO with the application form, documents and the fees. Once the documents and application are verified, a duplicate DL is sent to the registered address.

Fees for getting Duplicate Driving Licence

The fee for getting a duplicate driving licence is Rs. 200 in most of the states. Along with this, you are supposed to pay extra Rs 200 for a smart card. Thus, the total fee is Rs. 400 according to rule 32 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules Act, 1989.

You can download the duplicate of your driving licence online from the Parivahan Sarathi portal. Once you open the online portal, you are required to follow these steps:

Step 1: Enter your state name
Step 2: A new page will open
Step 3: Click on “Driving Licence” tab on the homepage
Step 4: Select “Print Driving Licence” from the drop-down menu
Step 5: Enter the application number and date of birth
Step 6: Click on the Submit button to download the copy
