RTO Form 37: Notice To The Registered Owner Of The Motor Vehicle To Surrender The Certificate Of Registration For Cancellation And Issue Of Fresh Registration Certificate In The Name Of The Financier

Your vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) is the official document proving that it is registered with the Indian government.

It specifies the vehicle’s category, the territorial border within which it can be operated, the engine and chassis number, the fuel used, and the cubic capacity. The following are some crucial facts concerning the RC that you should be aware of:

• All vehicle owners, including yourself, must have a valid RC. Only after that will you be able to drive on Indian roadways.
• A Registration Certificate is valid for 15 years after it is issued.
• After the expiry date, the RC can be renewed for another 5 years.
• If you have a temporary RC, it will only be valid for one month.

In case the original owner of the motor vehicle wishes to sell it, the RTO issues a notice as Form 37 to intimate that the original Registration Certificate needs to be surrendered for cancellation so the new financier can be issued a fresh Registration Certificate.

How to Download RTO Form 37?

Following are steps to download:

• Go to https://parivahan.gov.in/
• Click “Informational Services” on the menu tab
• Hover over “Downloadable Forms” in the drop-down menu
• Click “All Form” 
• Click on “Form 37” under the vehicle-related category

How to fill RTO Form 37?

Form 37 is rather easy to fill. You can just use the following steps:

• Since the registering authority is the one issuing the form, in the first blank you need to fill in the address of the concerned registering authority.
• In the second blank, fill in the Reference Number of the request, followed by the date.
• In the next section of the form, you need to fill in the name of the person who owns the original registration certificate, i.e., the registered owner. 
• In the next blanks fill in the name of the new financier and the original registration number.
• Finish the form by adding the date and the signature of the registering authority. 
• In the end, this needs to be addressed to the Financier with their name, address, and contact number.

Documents needed with Form 37

For successful submission of Form 37, the following documents must be attached:

• Original RC
• Transfer documents (from the original owner to the new financier)
• ID Proof of both parties
