The company was approached by the Tamil Nadu government to carry out the support to ventilator manufacturers and to meet the growing demand with enhanced supply chain. This included first mile, mid-range and high end ICU ventilators required for patients at different stages of the disease progression. This approach ensures maximum availability of ventilation at optimum costs.
The company was able to pin point the fact that there was a significant gap that existed in the availability of reliable first mile ventilation. In conjunction with different healthcare experts and intensivists, Ashok Leyland curated a team of 50 engineers. The team was able to develop a low cost ventilator that is simple yet effective for first mile ventilation, with features such as sensors and volume controllers, pressure monitors, etc.
As per the company, the low cost ventilator has now been developed completely and is in the process of testing and clinical trials, which are slated to complete in the next coming weeks. Ashok Leyland is set to start the manufacturing of the ventilators in bulk soon.
