Citing the insurance packages being provided to healthcare workers and providers, the AIMTC has asked the same services be relayed to truck drivers as well, with an insurance cover of Rs. 50 Lakh for truck drivers and helpers. Along with that, the association has urged the government to provide free treatment facilities for truck drivers and helpers, should they contract the virus while on duty.

Kultaran Singh Atwal, President, AIMTC, said, “I demand an insurance package of Rs 50 lakh for truckers as they are risking their lives to transport essential commodities to millions of people across the country.”.

Along with that, the association has also demanded that five truck drivers should be allowed in one vehicle, with a valid driving license, because of many trucks being idle and off the roads due to the nationwide lockdown.
